How to Be an Outdoor Adventurer When You Enjoy Indoor Comforts

Outdoor adventuring doesn’t always come naturally to those who didn’t grow up outdoors. You might love the thought of navigating hiking trails and admiring the many beautiful forests and lakes around Australia, but the reality can often be far less comfortable. The good news is that despite preferring indoor comforts, you may be on your way to being an outdoor adventurer by taking note of these tips:

Live Close to Nature

Driving can be tiring, so if you have to spend hours on the road to get to the nearest walking track or beach, you can be worn out before you’ve even enjoyed the best of the outdoors! That’s why living close to nature can make sense. If you live somewhere surrounded by natural attractions, such as a community in Mariginiup, you never have to travel far to try something new. Reserves, regional parks, beaches, and bush trails can all be within reach. When you realise how rewarding these places can be, you may then feel more comfortable travelling further out.

Start with Daytrips

Not everyone can go from minimal contact with nature to overnight camping trips in the wilderness. Start by planning day trips and enjoying outdoor activities for a few hours at a time. Eventually, you may not miss your indoor comforts as much and can work towards overnight trips to get the most value out of your trips to natural attractions.

Bring Comforts from Home

Being out in nature doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. You can bring items with you that make being outside a far more enjoyable experience. For example, a camping chair is far more comfortable than sitting on the ground, and a camp cooker or a full camp kitchen means you can enjoy warm food and beverages, just as you would at home.

Ditch the Traditional Tent

Tents are convenient and practical, especially for campsites that are only accessible on foot. However, they are typically far from the most comfortable place to sleep. If you know that being at ease in the outdoors relies on you getting a good night’s sleep, upgrade your sleeping arrangement. There are plenty of alternatives to choose from, like caravans, cabins, rooftop tents, and campervans. You can even stay in hotels and motels near your favourite natural attractions.

Dress Appropriately

Part of the discomfort associated with outdoor activities is related to clothing and footwear. Inappropriate footwear can result in blisters, while the wrong clothing can mean you’re too hot or too cold. Plan where you’re going, check the weather forecast before you leave, and dress accordingly.

Most outdoor adventurers wear multiple layers so they can layer up or down as the weather allows. Natural, breathable materials are also preferred for their moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties.

Spending more time inside than outside doesn’t mean you can’t develop a passion for nature. These helpful tips above might be all it takes to uncover your love for the outdoors, allowing you to experience more of what our beautiful country has to offer.
